Our History in a Nutshell

In 2008, the student councils of the University of Amsterdam founded Commissie Duurzaamheid (CD), while student councils of the Hogeschool of Amsterdam founded Next Generation. In 2011, both committees combined into one and in 2012 they became an official association. At this point, the board decided to focus on international students too and the name changed to Students for Sustainability Amsterdam. The first official board started in October 2012 and the board has changed every academic year since.

What Do We Do?

The goal of SFSA is to help people in Amsterdam to become more sustainable and to enlarge the knowledge of students about sustainability. In doing this, we focus on students of all disciplines, not only those already studying the environment.

To accomplish our goals, we organize several events per year, the Greendocs for example. During a Greendoc event, we show a documentary about a certain sustainability topic and invite one or multiple speakers to elaborate on the subject. Besides the events, we work together with other Green organizations, such as the Green Offices, and the board of our universities or college to promote sustainability.
