Virtual Green Career Days – 13/5/2020 & 14/5/2020
At 13 and 14 May 2020, we organized the Green Career Days in cooperation with the UvA Green Office.
On the first day, we had three speakers from sustainable companies (Taste Before You Waste, Metabolic and Urgenda) and on the second day we had four speakers (Green Giraffe, VVM, PBL and TheRockGroup). Both days were hosted on Zoom, and on Friday the 15th we published our Green Career Day Booklet with a whole lot of other sustainable companies for students. Using the link below, you can find the booklet and the links to watch the whole event.
Instagram Live Sustainable Fashion – 22/4/2020
At the 22nd of April, we held our very first virtual event ever! We originally planned to show ‘The True Cost’ followed by a panel discussion on sustainable fashion, but that event has been canceled due to Covid-19. Fortunately, three amazing speakers were willing to continue the event in a different form: on Instagram Live!
Tree Planting Event – 7/3/2020
At Saturday the 7th of March, we went to Rijk van Rorik to help out the organisation to plant 1500 fruit trees! It was a really fun day with a lot of hard work and delicious soup at the end 🙂
During the rest of March and April 2002, you can go to Rijk van Rorik every Saturday to plant trees between 13.00 and 16.00. During and afterwards, there is coffee, tea and something to eat for all the volunteers.
PBL Lezing – 4/3/2020
KlimaatGesprekken – 27/2/2020
On Thursday the 27th of February the workshop Klimaatgesprekken took place. KlimaatGesprekken is an organization based on the English Carbon Conversations International and teaches people in 6 workshops to look at their own footprint in a positive way. In addition, the workshop deals with climate psychology and conducting climate conversations with others. During the evening, two coaches of KlimaatGesprekken, Leanne and Masha, gave a short introduction to the workshop series in about an hour and a half. We started with some general tips for conducting climate talks and then applied this by practicing in groups of three.
Greendocs 2 – 8/1/2020
On Wednesday the 8th of January, we hosted our second Greendocs of this year with the documentary Chasing Coral. This documentary is about the massive bleaching of corals that happened all around the world in 2016. In the movie, a team of divers travels the world to capture images of the bleaching so that they can communicate this to the rest of the world. The pictures at the end are devastating: all corals are dead. Just in that one year, 29% of all corals worldwide died.
After the documentary, we had a panel discussion with three great experts – Verena Schoepf, Bert Hoeksema and Lennart de Nooijer – led by our moderator Joran Buwalda.
Clothing Swap – 7/12/2019
At Saturday the 7th of December 2019, we cohosted a Winter Clothing Swap at CREA, together with the UvA Green Office. For every piece of clothing that you brought, you could get 1, 2, or 3 tokens to choose another item and it was a great success! The turn-out was amazing and a lot of people who came in with clothes they did not enjoy anymore, left with clothes they loved.
Career Day – 28/11/2019
At the 28th of November, we cohosted a career day with Spectrum, GAOS and the IIS, and what a success it was! This year was the biggest and most visited career day until now! With a very interesting speaker, several fascinating workshops and a successful business fair we certainly look back on an event to be proud of. We thank everyone who helped and came along and let’s work towards an even more beautiful event next year!
Boards Reunion – 13/11/2019
At the 13th of November, we’ve had a lovely reunion with former board members of SFSA. We had drinks in the CREA cafe, and during the evening, we’ve heard a lot of great stories on how SFSA came to be (from the founders themselves!), what amazing events they’ve organised and how the world of sustainability has changed since 2008.
It was really nice to learn this much and we’d like to thank all present board members for coming. Hopefully, we’ll see you all again soon!
Greendocs 1 – 30/10/2019
At Wednesday the 30th of October, the first Greendocs of the 19/20 academic year took place. We showed the documentary Sustainable, which is about finding an alternative for the conventional farming and food system we have right now. In the documentary, Marty, Will, and Kris Travis are filmed on their small, organic farm called Spence Farm. Through the four seasons, the ins and outs of the farm are shown.
After the documentary, moderator Joran Buwalda started a panel discussion between the audience and two speakers: Kasper
